What this page is
This page quotes r/nagios's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/nagios's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion
No Spam, Low-Effort Posts, or Undisclosed Self-Promotion.
Sharing your blog post, plugin, video, or Exchange contribution is welcome. What's not: cross-posting without context, affiliate-link spam, ads for non-Nagios products, or self-promotion that hides who you are. If in doubt, message the mods.
Use Post Flair.
Pick the flair that fits your post. Posts without flair after 24 hours may be removed. * Interesting Monitoring Hurdle: A problem you're stuck on * Hurdle Cleared: How you solved a tricky one * Question: Quick asks * Discussion: Architecture, opinions, war stories * Showcase: Your setup, dashboard, or build * Exchange: Nagios Exchange plugins and contributions * Guide: Tutorials and how-tos * Releases: Memes and lighthearted content. Use sparingly. * Fun: memes (sparingly)
Disclose AI-Generated Content.
LLMs are useful, but if a plugin, config, or answer was generated by an AI, say so. People should be able to evaluate it knowing where it came from. Pure AI-generated low-effort posts will be removed.

All 8 rules of r/nagios
- Be Respectful and Professional.
This is a community for Nagios users, admins, contributors, and the curious. Keep discussions constructive and on-topic. No personal attacks, harassment, discrimination, or political fights. There are other subs for that. - Help Us Help You: Look Around First.
Skim the [docs](https://library.nagios.com/docs), the [support forum](https://support.nagios.com/forum), and recent posts in the sub before asking. There's a good chance someone has already worked through your issue. - Provide Context When Asking For Help.
"Why isn't my check working?" without details usually gets ignored. Include: * Nagios product (Core, XI, Log Server, etc.) and version number. * OS and relevant details. * Configuration snippets and exact error messages, formatted as code. * What you've already tried. - No Spam, Low-Effort Posts, or Undisclosed Self-Promotion.

Before posting screenshots, configs, or logs, scrub hostnames, IPs, credentials, API keys, customer names, and anything else that identifies systems or people. Once it's on Reddit, it's archived. - Disclose AI-Generated Content.
LLMs are useful, but if a plugin, config, or answer was generated by an AI, say so. People should be able to evaluate it knowing where it came from. Pure AI-generated low-effort posts will be removed. - Follow Moderator Decisions.
If a post is removed or you get a warning, take it up via modmail rather than arguing in comments. Mods make mistakes, and we'll discuss it. But continued rule-breaking after warnings leads to bans.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
