What this page is

This page quotes r/Portal's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Portal's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

Welcome to Aperture Laboratories. r/portal is the subreddit dedicated to the Portal series, which was made by Valve and started on October 10th, 2007. Portal and Portal 2 are first-person adventure-style puzzle games in which the goal is to escape an abandoned underground laboratory full of murderous robots.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI
All content generated by AI or LLMs is not allowed on this subreddit. This includes: - AI images - Bot accounts - Text generated by LLMs "AI" is subject to mod discretion.
All 9 rules of r/Portal
  1. No low quality posts
Posts should have some quality to them. If you think one thing looks or sounds like something from Portal(2), post it at moderator’s discretion, if it resembles portal enough, we will allow it, however will remove any posts that are too much of a stretch. Please also try to avoid “how would this interaction go” or “what if Cave Johnson bought [__]” posts, one or two of them are ok, but it gets annoying when they are constantly being posted.
  2. No NSFW content.
This should be common sense. This is a game rated E10+, as such, minors are expected to be here. So don’t be weird with posts (such as posting NSFW, real or not, even if it’s Portal focused), and try not to be weird in the comments either.
  3. No bigotry.
Please do not post or comment anything that is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic or is just direspectful. It will be removed.
  4. No repetitive posts/chain posts
This includes taking a post and image and constantly re-uploading it with a slight title change for attention. It swamps the sub and hides other potential posts from being seen. It is seen as duplicate spam and will not be tolerated.
  5. No political content.
Please keep politics out of r/portal, as politics can easily start arguments.
  6. No Xenophobia
Be kind to everyone, no matter where they're from. Any posts harassing or being rude to anyone of any nationality (including fictional characters like Wheatley) will be removed, even if it's intended as a joke
  7. Don’t start or participate in drama.
This is a Portal subreddit, for god’s sake. Don’t make us moderators have to lock posts.
  8. No AI
All content generated by AI or LLMs is not allowed on this subreddit. This includes: - AI images - Bot accounts - Text generated by LLMs "AI" is subject to mod discretion.
  9. No reposts
Includes reposting videos, images or text posts. (Not to be confused with chain/repetitive posts)

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
