What this page is
This page quotes r/sounddesign's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-06. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/sounddesign's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? - its rules on Reddit
For the discussion of sound design, which is the art and practice of creating sounds and soundtracks for movies, games, music, etc.
What its rules say about promotion
Don't promote pirated software/cracks.
This includes DAWs, plugins, sound libraries, or ripping paid content off YouTube or other platforms.
AI generated audio is not sound design
This community is for humans creating sound. Posting AI-generated audio or promoting AI audio tools is off-topic here, the same way AI-generated art wouldn't belong in an art subreddit dedicated to human-made work.
Limit self-promotion
Sharing your own work is welcome, but this isn't a place to advertise services or portfolios repeatedly. Self-promotional posts are limited to one per week per user, and should still relate to sound design (not just a link with no context or discussion).

All 8 rules of r/sounddesign
- Be civil
Respect other people's opinions. Disagreement is fine, rudeness isn't. - Don't promote pirated software/cracks.
This includes DAWs, plugins, sound libraries, or ripping paid content off YouTube or other platforms. - Posts should relate to sound design.
Keep it to creating, designing, or discussing sounds. Off-topic content will be removed. - Add a flair to your post
Posts without a flair are automatically removed. Pick the one that best fits your post before submitting. - Put effort into your posts.
It's fine to ask for help, but show your work. If you're asking about a sound from a video, include a link and timestamp, and mention what you've already tried. Low-effort "find this sound" or "recreate this" posts without any of that will be sent for mod review instead of published automatically. - AI generated audio is not sound design

If you're posting a paid gig, include the amount being offered. If it's unpaid, that must be stated clearly in the title. - Limit self-promotion
Sharing your own work is welcome, but this isn't a place to advertise services or portfolios repeatedly. Self-promotional posts are limited to one per week per user, and should still relate to sound design (not just a link with no context or discussion).
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
