What its rules say about promotion

No excessive self-promotion
Sharing your own word game is allowed when it is relevant and contributes to the community, but r/wordgames should not be used primarily as an advertising channel. Repeated promotion, promotional-only participation, or posting substantially the same promotion multiple times may be removed.
No advertising, spam or solicitation
Do not use the subreddit for spam, unsolicited advertising, commercial solicitation, referral campaigns, affiliate links, or requests for votes, reviews, downloads, sign-ups, or other promotional actions. Legitimate discussion of word games is welcome, including discussion of games made by the poster, provided it follows Rule 3.
No duplicate or substantially repeated posts
Do not submit the same or substantially similar content multiple times. Reposting an existing discussion, promotion, game announcement, or puzzle without a meaningful reason may be removed. Updates or genuinely new information are allowed.
All 12 rules of r/wordgames
  1. Keep it about word games
Posts and comments should be related to word games, word puzzles, vocabulary, wordplay, or closely related topics. Content that is primarily about unrelated games, general trivia, politics, maths, or other topics belongs elsewhere.
  2. No low-effort posts
Posts should give the community something meaningful to discuss, solve, discover, or play. Very short or context-free posts, generic questions, screenshots without explanation, and simple requests for help or answers may be removed when they do not provide enough substance for discussion.
  3. No excessive self-promotion
Sharing your own word game is allowed when it is relevant and contributes to the community, but r/wordgames should not be used primarily as an advertising channel. Repeated promotion, promotional-only participation, or posting substantially the same promotion multiple times may be removed.
  5. No APKs or suspicious downloads
Do not post APK files, unofficial game downloads, cracked or modified versions of games, or links to downloads that may compromise users' devices or accounts. Official app-store or developer links are permitted where otherwise relevant.
  6. Use spoiler tags for answers
Do not reveal puzzle answers, solutions, or other significant spoilers without using Reddit's spoiler formatting. This is especially important for daily and time-sensitive puzzles where users may want to participate before seeing the answer. Use Reddit’s spoiler formatting (>!spoiler text!<)
  7. Don't put spoilers in titles
A spoiler tag cannot hide a post title. Do not put puzzle answers, solutions, or other significant spoilers directly in post titles. Titles should allow people to browse the subreddit without accidentally seeing an answer.
  8. Don't ask for or provide answers to active puzzles
Do not use the subreddit to obtain or give away answers to an active puzzle when doing so defeats the purpose of playing it. Discussion, hints and post-solve analysis are welcome when they do not spoil the experience for others.
  9. No duplicate or substantially repeated posts
Do not submit the same or substantially similar content multiple times. Reposting an existing discussion, promotion, game announcement, or puzzle without a meaningful reason may be removed. Updates or genuinely new information are allowed.
  10. No misleading or deceptive content
Titles and descriptions should accurately represent the content being posted. Do not deliberately mislead users about a game, puzzle, link, result, prize, download, or other material information.
  11. Be civil and don't harass others
Do not harass, threaten, bully, insult, or personally attack other users. Criticism of puzzles, games, ideas, or arguments is allowed; attacks directed at the person are not. Follow Reddit's site-wide rules regarding harassment and abusive behaviour.
  12. Keep content appropriate
Do not post pornographic, excessively graphic, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate material. Content must also comply with Reddit's site-wide rules. Wordplay or puzzle content involving mature themes should not be used as a pretext for posting prohibited material.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
