What this page is

This page quotes r/Busking's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-11. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/Busking's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

The art of street performing. busking and street performance. For buskers, street performers, musicians, artists, and audiences from all over the world. Street performance is for everyone

What its rules say about promotion

Self-Promotion is OK
Go right ahead! Post your videos, tell us what pitches you will be found at, promote your gigs, share your blogs & websites, its all good. There are a lot of lurkers on this subreddit that just like to watch performers. This will let them know where to find you in person. And hey, even full-time buskers still need to be entertained.
Posts about Festivals & Gigs are OK
Most street performers also perform at festivals or on stage. Feel free to promote local events that either have buskers or are looking for buskers! Make sure to include the place and time at the beginning of the title of the post so that everyone can tell where it is! Like this: [City, State, Country] Month Day, Year, Title
Begging is not Busking
Posts and comments promoting begging or asking for money without providing entertainment will be removed. Discussions about interacting with panhandlers, strategies for increasing tips and such are permitted. Posts of performance videos that include tipping information are explicitly allowed. Crowdfunding posts need to be related to performance and will be evaluated on a case by case basis. If you need aid, there are assistance subreddits in the sidebar (Mobile reddit under the "about" tab)

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI Allowed
Street performance and busking is about making live art and genuine connections in person. "AI", large language models, and similar technologies are the antithesis of live street performance and all of the values we have as a community. Any Posts using AI for art or other purposes in r/busking will be deleted and can lead to a ban if done too many times.
All 10 rules of r/Busking
  1. Be nice
This subreddit is a place to discover new performers, discuss and share our experiences, ask questions, and give advice. While critiques and discussions of skill level and tastefullness are fine, please don't write anything that you would not be willing to say in person. Not everyone is going to like your act, and that is ok. No trolling! Discussing ugly truths and realities is not being mean. Proselytizing is not nice. Our souls are just fine.
  2. Flair your posts
When you write a post, please select a "flair" before posting it. This is to help categorize what your post is about and to make searching this subreddit easier. The moderator may change the flair on your post if they feel it describes the post better. If you do not flair your post, the post may not be uploaded until a moderator reads your post, flairs it, and approves it.
  5. Country Required for Location-Specific questions
This is an international subreddit with members across several continents. We don't know where you are. When the location is necessary for the conversation (ex. when asking about regulations, places to perform, etc...) the country must be included. The full name of the city is required, at least the first time it is mentioned. USA locations require the state. (There are often multiple cities of the same name in the US.) Cross-posts from location-specific subreddits are usually fine.
  6. Busking is not begging
No posts or comments accusing performers of begging or asking users to defend performing for tips will be allowed. Wether buskers perform purely for applause or as a full-time income, all are valid here. If you don't like buskers asking for tips, go to another subreddit. We are done defending ourselves here. Discussions on hat lines, best ways to increase tips and getting hired for gigs and so on are still fine. This rule does not prohibit discussing interacting with panhandlers.
  8. No Income Request Posts/Comments
No asking how much money someone else makes. Many performers are uncomfortable sharing their income information with strangers. No asking how much money you can make. We cannot tell you, because it depends on a variety of factors unique to your circumstances. You have to go out and see. If YOU want to share how much YOU make that is fine, but there is no pressure to do so. Asking advice for how to increase tips is acceptable. This rule does NOT apply to posts seeking talent for hire.
  10. Crossposts must be obviously related to busking
Crossposting is allowed, but since the text of the post is not visible in summaries the title and/or photo associated with them must have an obvious relation to this subreddit. Generic titles like "I need help" are too vague and will be removed. All other subreddit rules must be followed as well.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
