What this page is

This page quotes r/JazzPiano's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/JazzPiano's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

What its rules say about promotion

No excessive self-promotion
We are not your sales channel. Do not post self-promoting content excessively. r/JazzPiano considers it permissible to [have about 10% of your posts and comments sitewide be self-promotion](https://www.reddit.com/wiki/selfpromotion). Exceptions may be made for material that does not support a commercial enterprise (i.e. an unmonetized video of you playing jazz piano or teaching a concept that does not direct the viewer towards a paid site or monetized content), or at the mod team's discretion.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI-generated music is allowed
No AI-generated music or content is to be posted or shared on this sub, ever. If your video does not show a real person playing the piano/keys, it will be removed. First offense will result in a mute, and any further offenses will result in a permaban.
All 11 rules of r/JazzPiano
  2. Post relevant content only; content must be piano-centric
Any posted content must be related to jazz piano (playing, artists, theory, performances, etc.). No non-jazz content is allowed (e.g. classical music). If you are posting a video of another person/artist playing - meaning not you - it must be focused (>50%) on the piano. If you wish to post a general video of a jazz ensemble playing, please go to r/jazz.
  3. Be civil and constructive
Be civil and constructive. No nasty comments, no patronizing or condescending comments, hate speech, discriminatory or passive-aggressiveness. Constructive critique is generally welcome, unless a poster specifies otherwise.
  4. Video is the preferred medium for performances
Performances: video links are strongly preferred, audio only links or audio + animations are discouraged to avoid plagiarism. Preferred media is YouTube. Do not link to sites that force users to log in, they may not have an account there.
  5. Rule violation may lead to a temporary or permanent ban from r/jazzpiano
Violation of the rules may subject you to a temporary or permanent ban at the discretion of the moderators.
  6. No very low effort posts

  7. No AI-generated music is allowed

  8. No equipment only posts - posts MUST be specifically relevant to jazz piano
There are a ton of resources out there for your piano buying needs - whether digital or acoustic - try the Merriam Music channel on YouTube, outstanding. r/piano has many posts on equipment as well. Posts that focus on equipment only questions on r/jazzpiano with no clear links to jazz piano performance, theory, etc. will be removed. Violators risk a potential ban.
  9. No technology / equipment questions
We are not a technology or equipment subreddit, there are plenty of others for this. Content must focus specifically on jazz piano.
  10. No karma farming - posting the same video on several subreddits risks removal
No karma farming - posting the same video on several subreddits risks removal. Posts on r/jazzpiano must focus on jazz piano. Video files strongly preferred, no audio only (rule no. 4)
  11. No self degradation.
All posts of the original poster bagging on themselves and their playing will be removed. E.g. "Here's my shitty playing", "terrible classical pianist attempts jazz", calling yourself garbage, etc. If you are willing to share your playing and looking for criticism, format your post to say so using the tips/critique post flair. If you are not looking for criticism, say so with the other flair. Stand by your playing as we are all here to learn.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
