What this page is

This page quotes r/metalmusicians's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/metalmusicians's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? What its rules say about promotion

No excessive self-promotion.
Self-promotion and feedback is a core part of this community. However, there is a point it turns to spam. Please don't post original material from the same band/project more than once every 14 days.
Be involved.
Be involved in the community. Respond to feedback and questions in a timely fashion, be engaged beyond just posting. Users who continually self-promote but aren't engaged with the community at all (whether on their posts or others') will be considered pure spammers and subject to a ban. This is to prevent the sub from becoming a typical self-promotion spam sub.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No bots.
There may be rare exceptions made, but for the most parts, bots will be automatically banned.
No AI generated content
Music or imagery generated by an AI algorithm is not allowed.
All 11 rules of r/metalmusicians
  1. Metal only.
This sub is dedicated to metal specifically. Metal is an extremely flexible genre but non-metal is pretty readily identifiable.
  2. Be constructive.
Criticism is fine. Namecalling, insults, flaming, harassing, etc. is not. No racism, sexism, bigotry, etc., or anything that violates sitewide rules and ToS.
  3. No subgenre-based flaming or elitism.
This sub is for folks from ALL subgenres of metal. Absolutely no bashing of any particular style or subgenre of metal is concerned. Pointing out that something isn't actually metal (e.g., is rock or another genre altogether) and doesn't belong here is fine. Degrading other styles of metal is not okay.
  4. No excessive self-promotion.

  5. Low quality/low effort posts and disallowed post types (read description).
No memes, no crossposts, no TikTok videos, no cellphone/low quality camera recordings, no super short riff or solo videos. Try to make genuine, solid contributions to the sub. We all want to see effort and thought put into your work, and will return in kind. Make posts looking for feedback, not just to show off. There is also a ban on covers of all kinds.
  6. Be involved.

  7. Give accurate and helpful advice.
Please give advice that is accurate, helpful, and genuine. Use your education and experience to provide actionable answers and support.
  8. No politics or politicking.
Some exceptions are made when discussing explicitly political bands or music, or discussing political issues or legislation that directly affects the music industry.
  9. No bots.
There may be rare exceptions made, but for the most parts, bots will be automatically banned.
  10. Please include relevant subgenres and/or an FFO (For Fans Of) in the title of any posting of music.
Tell us what kind of music you're posting, even just a vague idea helps guide listeners.
  11. No AI generated content
Music or imagery generated by an AI algorithm is not allowed.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
