What this page is

This page quotes r/ComicWriting's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-10. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/ComicWriting's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI Generated Posts + Chaos Rule
Suspected AI generated posts will be removed without warning. Also, the mysterious rule that actually governs all other rules.
All 15 rules of r/ComicWriting
  1. NO requests for creative content! Writers are responsible for their own ideas.
This reddit has a very specific purpose. It's a place where writers can come to improve their ABILITY TO WRITE... which in turn, allows others to learn and improve their ability. **It is NOT a place to come for ideas to flesh out or finish your story.** That's YOUR job. Should my story take place on Venus or Mars? NO! How do you choose the setting of your story? YES! What should I call my spy comic? NO! What makes a good comic title? YES! Got it?
  2. NO General Critiques
Please post general critique to; r/COMIC_CRITS This forum focuses more on discussing and solving specific writer problems.
  3. PROMO Posts: labeled, 30 days without deleting, 20 posts before repost
    1) * ALL Promo posts MUST Contain "PROMO" in the post title. * 2) Promo posts may not be deleted before 30 days from posting. 3) 20 other posts must go up after your promo before you can repost your previous, or any new promo. Posts that don't adhere to these rules will be deleted without notification.
  4. NO Unpaid Collaborations
No post for collaborations are allowed here. If you want to do that, there is a specific reddit for it. r/ComicBookCollabs If you want a writer for this group, you must pay them as per Rule#5 OR follow the group and make a friend, then contact that friend directly to collab.
  5. EMPLOYMENT POSTS: Only paid opportunities. Project budget required. Page rate required.
    * NO Solicitations for free work. * TOTAL PROJECT BUDGET must be posted. This is NOT your writing budget, but your entire bankroll to create your book. * PAGE RATE BUDGET must also be posted. Consider the following; Entry level $20/page Intermediate level $40/page Professional level $80/page Expert level $160/page No posts offering writing rates less than $20/page are allowed.
  6. Non comic script, but comic related writing min. .04/word
Minimum rate for comic related, but non-comic script writing work posted here is $.04/word.
  7. NO generic project updates allowed.
Personal project updates must contain talking points for the community. The goal is to learn and improve. Posting "Hey I'm almost done with my latest script," OR "Just letting everyone know I finished another 5 pages last night," etc. doesn't belong in this forum.
  8. NO Privacy Walls
Do not ask people to contact you to review your content. That defeats the purpose of this group. If you are not comfortable sharing your work, consider sharing a portion of it. If you're not comfortable sharing at least a portion of your work, this writer's reddit group is not for you.
  9. NO multiple cross posts.
Cross posting in 30 different groups is spammy. You can cross post from 1 other group in a 72 hour period. Crossposts in 2 or more groups within that time frame will be deleted.
  10. Product or Crowdfund Promos Must be Posted By Writer.
You can't post for a friend. This is a writing community. Only writers can push their products or crowdfunds. If you want to give your friend's project post time, get them to send their writer to join the community. It's easy enough and maybe they'll stick around and contribute.
  11. Artists can post service promos.
If you're an artist, you can self promo for your services (following the promo guidelines here), but not for your books or crowdfunds, send your writers over to promo those!
  12. Unless exempt here, non-comic writing posts are spam.
Posts not related to comic book writing, unless noted otherwise here, are considered spam and not allowed.
  13. Belligerent commenters banned without warning.
Belligerent, off topic argumentative, or personal attack comments will not be tolerated here and may result in immediate banning.
  14. No Racial/Political Discourse
This subreddit exists to help people write better. It does NOT exist to validate the content of any one story. Discourse of emotionally charged issues like anything race or politically related will be removed without warning.
  15. No AI Generated Posts + Chaos Rule
Suspected AI generated posts will be removed without warning. Also, the mysterious rule that actually governs all other rules.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
