Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/filmscoring's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

- its rules on Reddit
A community for the art, craft, business, and technology of music for picture/media. Learn • Share • Critique • Collaborate • Improve Composers, orchestrators, arrangers, music editors, producers, filmmakers, musicians, students, and industry professionals are welcome. Constructive criticism is encouraged. Gatekeeping isn't. AI can be discussed openly. Music submissions with any generative AI use must be disclosed.
What its rules say about promotion
No Spam or Excessive Self-Promo
Sharing your work is encouraged when it contributes to the community. However, r/filmscoring should not become a dumping ground for advertisements, repeated portfolio links, commercial solicitations, affiliate links, or promotional posts with little or no community value. If you're posting your own work, consider providing context or inviting discussion — for example, what you were trying to accomplish, what techniques you used, or what kind of feedback you're looking for.
What its rules say about AI and bots
A.I.-Generated Music (even if partial) Must Be Disclosed
AI and generative technology are legitimate subjects for discussion in this community. Discussion of AI is allowed. Members may discuss its technology, ethics, economics, legal questions, creative applications, limitations, risks, and impact on the scoring industry. If generative AI contributed to a piece, disclose that fact when posting it. For the purposes of this rule, generative AI means systems that generate musical material such as melodies, harmonies, rhythms, arrangements, performance
All 10 rules of r/filmscoring
- Be Respectful and Constructive
Treat other members with professionalism and basic human decency. Disagreement, criticism, debate, and strong opinions are welcome. Personal attacks, harassment, insults, bullying, condescension, and hostility toward other members are not. - Keep Discussion Relevant to Film/Media Scoring
Posts should relate to film scoring or the broader media-music industry. Also to note, we are *not* a sub that rates films - it's not that type of scoring! - Help People Learn - Don't just Tell Them They're Wrong
This community exists to encourage development. If someone asks a beginner question, answer it seriously. If someone posts work for feedback, explain why you think something works or doesn't work. Experienced professionals are encouraged to share practical knowledge and perspective. Beginners are encouraged to ask questions without fear of being ridiculed. Nobody is expected to know everything. - Feedback Should Be Useful and Requested
When someone asks for feedback, provide honest criticism while remaining constructive. If detailed critique is requested, don't be afraid to discuss weaknesses. The goal isn't to make everyone feel good about everything they create — it's to help people become better composers. - A.I.-Generated Music (even if partial) Must Be Disclosed

For the purposes of this rule, generative AI means systems that generate musical material such as melodies, harmonies, rhythms, arrangements, performance - Don't Misinterpret Authorship (No Plagarism)
This should be obvious, but just in case - it's here. Do not present another person's music, work, ideas, or substantial contribution as your own. If a project involves collaborators, ghostwriters, orchestrators, arrangers, programmers, AI generation, or other significant contributors, be transparent about the relevant circumstances when that information is material to the discussion. Remixes, rescoring exercises, covers, fan projects, and similar work should be identified appropriately. - No Spam or Excessive Self-Promo
- Respect Professional Boundaries and Fair Practices
Discussion of rates, contracts, unpaid work, credits, ownership, royalties, unions/guilds, licensing, and other professional issues is welcome. However, do not use the subreddit to facilitate exploitation, harassment, blacklisting, or targeted attacks against individuals or companies. Members may discuss bad experiences and industry practices, but accusations about identifiable individuals or organizations should be handled carefully and factually. - No Community Warfare
Do not organize or encourage users to target another subreddit, person, company, composer, filmmaker, or community. Do not post links for the purpose of directing harassment or negative attention toward someone. Criticism and discussion of industry practices are allowed. Mobilizing Redditors against someone (or an entity) is not. - Follow Reddit General Rules/Code of Conduct
All Reddit-wide policies apply here, including rules concerning harassment, hate, threats, sexual content involving minors, non-consensual intimate content, privacy, impersonation, illegal activity, spam, and other prohibited content.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
