What this page is

This page quotes r/creativewriting's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-12. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/creativewriting's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($49 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about AI and bots

Commitment to Quality and Originality
Our community welcomes writers of all levels to share their unique voices. We accept content in English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, and Italian. Plagiarism and AI-generated content are prohibited to maintain integrity. Low-effort posts (such as prompts and single sentence stories) and spam are discouraged to foster thoughtful and polished writing. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.
All 6 rules of r/creativewriting
  2. Appropriate Use of Flairs
Use the Question or Discussion Flair for genuine writing-related inquiries and engaging discussions. Avoid feedback requests, philosophical stories, memes, hypothetical scenarios, and non-writing queries. For sharing your stories, use the appropriate story flair (Short Story, Essay, Poetry, Novella, Journaling, Screenwriting). For outlines and concepts, use the Outline or Concept Flair. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.
  3. Constructive Criticism and Respectful Discourse
Constructive criticism should inspire growth, not harm. Avoid unhelpful or hateful comments that lack guidance or attack the writer personally. Retaliating against feedback is unprofessional and creates a toxic environment. Focus on the work, not the person, and engage in respectful, thoughtful discussions. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.
  4. Mindful Sharing of Sensitive Content
Tag posts with sensitive content clearly and mark them as NSFW. Avoid sharing dangerous content, including hate speech, incitement to violence, graphic violence, explicit sexual content, dangerous misinformation, doxxing, and support for terrorism. Respect real people in your writing and use slurs responsibly. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.
  5. Guidelines for Image Content in Posts
Images must be relevant to your writing and enhance the reader’s experience. Embed images within your text unless they are the main focus. Avoid standalone art pieces. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.
  6. Advertisement Policy
No advertisements or self-promotion. This includes services, products, groups, opportunities, and multimedia. Sharing resources in response to direct questions is allowed, but unsolicited links are not. Books for sale or paywalled content are also prohibited. For more details, please refer to our rule wiki.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
